EU REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) entered into force in June 1, 2007, aim of which is to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment, increase the transparency of information about chemicals, and to reduce testing on vertebrate animals. REACH requires Registration, application for authorization, restriction, notification and communication of information along the supply chain.

According to Article 7(2), notification of substances in articles is required when specified conditions applied.

According to Article 33, producers or importers of articles containing substances of very high concern (SVHC) above 0.1% (w/w) have to provide respective information available to the recipients of articles to allow their safe use.

The content of substances in articles can be restricted or banned under the restrictions procedure.
